Cellular model

Creating a cellular model has been a particularly challenging task of systems biology and mathematical biology. It involves developing efficient algorithms , data structures , visualization and communication tools to orchestrate the integration of large quantities of biological data with the goal of computer modeling. It is also directly associated with bioinformatics , computational biology and Artificial life. It involves the use of computer simulations of the many cellular subsystems such as the networks of metabolites and enzymes which comprise metabolism , signal transduction pathways and gene regulatory networks to both analyze and visualize the complex connections of these cellular processes. The eukaryotic cell cycle is very complex and is one of the most studied topics, since its misregulation leads to cancers.

Metastasis results from a sequence of multiple steps including invasion and migration. The early stages of metastasis are tightly controlled in normal cells and can be drastically affected by malignant mutations; therefore, they might constitute the principal determinants of the overall metastatic rate even if the later stages take long to occur. To elucidate the role of individual mutations or their combinations affecting the metastatic development, a logical model has been constructed that recapitulates published experimental results of known gene perturbations on local invasion and migration processes, and predict the effect of not yet experimentally assessed mutations. A method to associate gene expression profiles with different stable state solutions of the logical model has been developed for that purpose. In addition, we have systematically predicted alleviating masking and synergistic pairwise genetic interactions between the genes composing the model with respect to the probability of acquiring the metastatic phenotype. We focused on several unexpected synergistic genetic interactions leading to theoretically very high metastasis probability.

Metrics details. A variety of topics are reviewed in the area of mathematical and computational modeling in biology, covering the range of scales from populations of organisms to electrons in atoms. The use of maximum entropy as an inference tool in the fields of biology and drug discovery is discussed. Mathematical and computational methods and models in the areas of epidemiology, cell physiology and cancer are surveyed. The technique of molecular dynamics is covered, with special attention to force fields for protein simulations and methods for the calculation of solvation free energies. The utility of quantum mechanical methods in biophysical and biochemical modeling is explored.

Mathematical and computational modeling in biology at multiple scales

Artem S. Novozhilov, Georgy P. Karev, Eugene V. We describe a stochastic birth-and-death model of evolution of horizontally transferred genes in microbial populations. The model is a generalization of the stochastic model described by Berg and Kurland and includes five parameters: the rate of mutational inactivation, selection coefficient, invasion rate i. Analysis of the present model in different domains of parameter values shows that, as long as the rate of within-population horizontal transmission is comparable to the mutational inactivation rate and there is even a low rate of invasion, horizontally acquired sequences can be fixed in the population or at least persist for a long time in a substantial fraction of individuals in the population even when they are neutral or slightly deleterious.

Mathematical and Computational Modeling in Complex Biological Systems

Mathematical and theoretical biology or, Biomathematics , is a branch of biology which employs theoretical analysis, mathematical models and abstractions of the living organisms to investigate the principles that govern the structure, development and behavior of the systems, as opposed to experimental biology which deals with the conduction of experiments to prove and validate the scientific theories. Mathematical biology aims at the mathematical representation and modeling of biological processes , using techniques and tools of applied mathematics. It can be useful in both theoretical and practical research. Describing systems in a quantitative manner means their behavior can be better simulated, and hence properties can be predicted that might not be evident to the experimenter. This requires precise mathematical models.

In this book, mathematics was used in a very descriptive way for the analysis of various biological shapes observed in nature. This, to a certain extent, was dictated by the descriptive nature of biology at that time. However, the use of mathematical methods in other branches of biology, such as population dynamics and demography, had started much earlier the main contributors here are Thomas Malthus in the 18th century, Pierre Verhulst and Benjamin Gompertz in the 19th century and had become far more than just descriptive by the early 20th century.

The biological process and molecular functions involved in the cancer progression remain difficult to understand for biologists and clinical doctors. Recent developments in high-throughput technologies urge the systems biology to achieve more precise models for complex diseases. Computational and mathematical models are gradually being used to help us understand the omics data produced by high-throughput experimental techniques.

Беккер не мог выдавить ни слова. Проваливай и умри. Он не верил своим глазам.

У нее перехватило дыхание. Она посмотрела на него, потом на кольцо. Глаза ее увлажнились.

INTRODUCTION

- Que bebe usted.
